This course provides an in-depth exploration of First Nations cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, fostering a deeper respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultural identity, and spirituality. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the rich traditions and experiences of these communities, enhancing their ability to recognize and appreciate cultural diversity. By engaging with this course, learners will build the knowledge and skills necessary to promote inclusivity, support reconciliation efforts, and advocate for positive social change, contributing to a more respectful and inclusive society

Target Audience

This series is designed for all staff and will typically overlap learning in the HSE series. In most workplaces, workers complete these courses within the first weeks of their
employment and some titles might need to be refreshed every few years based on workplace requirements.

Learning Outcomes

An understanding of and respect for the cultural diversity of Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including their identities, spirituality, and kinship systems. Empathy and understanding of historical and contemporary experiences of First Nations peoples, including the impacts of government policies such as the Stolen Generations. Avenues for promoting reconciliation and closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, including advocating for improved living standards, employment opportunities, and celebrating First Nations
culture.
